Dental implants from The Sugar House Dentist in Salt Lake City are an ideal tooth replacement solution for people missing one or more of their natural teeth.
The dental implant process can take several dental visits over a period of months. Each stage is essential.
The Dental Implant Timeline
1. Dental Implant Examination and Assessment
Once you’ve decided to get an implant, we’ll take X-rays and assess your mouth. We will examine your teeth, gums, and jawbone to see whether implants are right for you.
If you don’t have sufficient bone at the implant site, we may recommend bone grafting, a procedure to promote new bone growth.
2. Tooth Implant Placement
When you’re ready, a titanium post is inserted into your jawbone. This usually takes one to two hours.
Over-the-counter pain relievers are usually enough for post-surgery soreness. An icepack can also help. Most patients can resume their ordinary activities the same day.
3. Osseointegration
The titanium post integrates with the bone over the next several months. The process is called osseointegration, and titanium is well-suited to it.
4. Placing the Final Restoration
The last step is placing a restoration, or artificial tooth. It sits on top of a piece called an abutment, which is the part physically connected to the implant.
One implant can support one artificial tooth. Several can support a bridge or full dental arch.
